Some applications that have been included with prior releases of Microsoft Windows, most notably Windows Mail (formerly Outlook Express), Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Photo Gallery, are no longer included with the operating system; they are instead offered separately as part of the Windows Live Essentials suite.

Windows 7 - It's the next version of Windows for PCs, and it's the result of working hand-in-hand with our partners and with people who use Windows in the real world every day. We're paying particular attention to the things they're telling us are important to them and will make their PCs work the way they want them to - things like enhanced reliability, responsiveness, and faster boot and shut-down. We're also trying to make their everyday tasks easier, like connecting and syncing devices, browsing the web, and managing a home network.

Of course, we're also working on new capabilities, so people will be able to do things with Windows 7 that were difficult (or perhaps impossible) to do with PCs before. Finally, we're working hard to ensure that Windows 7 will run on any PC and work with any program that works today with Windows Vista, so upgrading from Windows Vista will be easy.

FEATURES:

Windows 7 includes a number of new features, such as advances in touch, speech, and handwriting recognition, support for virtual hard disks, improved performance on multi-core processors, improved boot performance, and kernel improvements.

According to reports sent to TG Daily, the Milestone 1 build of Windows 7 adds support for systems using multiple heterogeneous graphics cards from different vendors and a new version of Windows Media Center. New features in Milestone 1 also reportedly include Gadgets being integrated into Windows Explorer, a Gadget for Windows Media Center, the ability to visually pin and unpin items from the Start Menu and Taskbar, improved media features, the XPS Essentials Pack being integrated, Windows PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment (ISE), and a multiline Calculator featuring Programmer and Statistics modes along with unit conversion.

Reports indicate that a feedback tool included in Milestone 1 lists some coming features: the ability to store Internet Explorer settings on a Windows Live account, updated versions of Paint and WordPad, and a 10-minute install process. In addition, improved network connection tools might be included.

Many new items have been added to the Control Panel including: Accelerators, ClearType Text Tuner, Display Color Calibration Wizard, Gadgets, Infrared, Recovery, Troubleshooting, Workspaces Center, Location and Other Sensors, Credential Manager, Biometric Devices, System Icons, Windows Solution Center, and Display. Windows Security Center has been renamed the Windows Solution Center (Windows Health Center in earlier builds) which encompass both security and maintenance of the computer.

The taskbar has seen the biggest visual changes, where the Quick Launch has been merged with the buttons to create an enhanced taskbar or what Microsoft internally refers to as the "Superbar". This enhanced taskbar also enables the Jump Lists feature to allow easy access to common tasks.

According to released PDC 2008, which was held 27-30 October 2008, session information, Windows 7 discussions will cover "enhancements to the taskbar, Start Menu, thumbnails and their desktop elements", a new networking API with support for building SOAP based web services in native code (as opposed to.NET based WCF web services), new features to shorten application install times, reduced UAC prompts, simplified development of installation packages,[56] and improved globalization support through a new Extended Linguistic Services API. Windows 7 will also contain a new FireWire (IEEE 1394) stack that fully supports IEEE 1394b with S800, S1600 and S3200 data rates.

At WinHEC 2008 Microsoft announced that color depths of 30-bit and 48-bit would be supported in Windows 7 along with the wide color gamut scRGB (which for HDMI 1.3 can be converted and output as xvYCC). The video modes supported in Windows 7 are 16-bit sRGB, 24-bit sRGB, 30-bit sRGB, 30-bit with extended color gamut sRGB, and 48-bit scRGB.

BUILDS:

Build 6801
On 8 October 2008, screenshots of Windows 7 build 6801 were leaked. On 28 October 2008, Microsoft distributed build 6801 to attendees at its Professional Developers Conference (PDC). It has since been leaked to bittorrent networks. It features an enhanced taskbar similar to the one in build 6933 although it is disabled by default. An unofficial patch has been released to enable the new taskbar in build 6801.

Pre-Beta 1
Microsoft also demonstrated build 6933.winmain.081020-1842 during the PDC, but did not give it to attendees. On 14 November 2008, screenshots of Windows 7 build 6936 were leaked by Winfuture. On 20 November 2008, Microsoft posted screenshots of build 6948 on the Engineering Windows 7 blog. In early December, WinFutere.de leaked screenshots of Build 6956, which demonstrated a new bootscreen. (Announced by WinFuture since Build 6954) and several improvements. At the WinHEC in China an attendee from the conference leaked a Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) image of Windows 7 Build 6956, then an ISO image was published, in this same site we can see many new screenshots of this build. Lately, Paul Thurrott posted several screenshots on his website of a newer build.

Beta 1
Microsoft has confirmed that Beta 1 will be handed out at MSDN Developer Conference on 13th January 2009 in the form of a DVD.

Release Candidate
The release candidate for Windows 7 will be available after Beta 1.

Final Build
While officially Microsoft has stated that Windows 7 will be released three years after Vista was shipped, the company has indicated that it plans to release Windows 7 in mid-2009, in time for installation on PCs that will ship for the Christmas 2009 buying season.

According to Rob Nelson, producer at Rockstar Toronto, the PC version has been working on GTA IV PC since January with a team of around 50 members. He gave us some perspective as to why the PC version is coming out later than with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. "The earlier PC versions of Grand Theft Auto (since III) have always been put into production as soon as the console versions were complete; in this case, we've been working in concert with the console teams, and even a little before. The reason we're releasing six months later is due to the fact that we are building this as a pc game from the ground up and adding additional features to an already massive experience."

So what's been added since? There'll be custom match filtering for multiplayer games, though it sounds like there might be something else in the works. "At this time, all we're talking about is the custom match filtering," said Nelson. "You'll be able to create a multiplayer match with any number of specifications, and others can search for something that is just right." Players also get a built-in video editor to splice together replays, more control options and, as you might expect, better graphics.
But what about the downloadable content on the way for the Xbox 360 version? "The downloadable content is exclusive to the Xbox 360," said Nelson.
As far as content goes like missions and storyline, nothing's really changed with the single-player for the PC version. You'll still get the same kind of open-ended experience playing as protagonist Niko Bellic as, fresh of the boat, he prowls the streets of Liberty City, instigating chaos, committing crimes, and stumbling his way up from the metropolis's seedy underbelly. With the PC version, you naturally get a different input, the mouse and keyboard. If you want, though, it's entirely possible to play through with a gamepad. For our demo, an Xbox 360 controller was hooked up, and it along with the mouse and keyboard were active at the same time, meaning we didn't have to go into a control menu to swap between which input devices were active. This way, you can use the mouse and keyboard for aiming and the controller for driving, or whatever you prefer.
Traffic density can be turned way up on PC.
We can say that aiming, as might be expected, is far easier in the PC version. Making precision shots while barreling through crowded streets to blow out tires and the brains of drivers was far more practical, and should hopefully make for some more entertaining high-speed pursuits as you're more easily able to pull off desired actions. There's also a slider in the PC version to dramatically increase traffic density, which can lead to traffic jams of thirty or so cars. If you've got some explosives on you, like for instance a rocket launcher, this can lead to some serious fireworks that should be sure to please those gamers that play GTA games more for the random cop chases than the storyline and missions.
Even with all the graphics options cranked and the resolution set at a ridiculous 2560 x 1600 the game still ran well as we sped through the city and blew up as many things as possible. We checked out the specs on the rig and it turns out there was some pretty powerful hardware in there: a Core 2 Extreme X9650 CPU, GeForce GTX 280 graphics card, and 3 GB of RAM. At this setting, the game definitely looked better than the console versions, particularly with regards to the extended draw distance and less pop-up, though that shouldn't be all that surprising.
The one major difference with the PC version is the addition of a replay editor. At any time during play offline or on you're able to hit a key, F2 as default, to record a 30 to 60 second clip of gameplay. The length is determined by what's going on onscreen. You can hit F2 as many times as you want, and the game will record overlapping clips, so no worries about interruption. There's no limit on how many clips you can record, just basically as many as you've got room for on your hard drive. Once you think you've captured something you like, you can pop out to the replay editor to start customizing your clips.
The seems like a pretty useful tool, as it lets you do things like cut up and splice together different bits of clips. So if you've got five different explosions and want to string them together into a montage, you just load up each clip, set ins and out and, through a seemingly easy to use interface, string them together. For each clip you can also set a whole range of visual filters and camera angles to get the best view of the action. This way you can show shootings from the point of view of the victim, overlay a green-tinted or sepia toned filter, maybe adjust the audio levels, and add in some custom text for an added effect. Like, when the cop car explodes, you can have text pop up with some creative witticism such as "Look, this cop car is exploding."
Better draw distances, less pop-in.
In addition to setting your own camera angles, it's also possible to have the camera perform movements while a scene plays out. If you want the view to orbit around Niko Bad Boys II-style while he's unloading clips or set the camera to a shaky handheld setting while he's running and gunning, that's entirely within your power. Then you can slap on a song from the soundtrack for some music accompaniment, touch up whatever else you feel is necessary, and move on to exporting the final file in 640x480, 720p, and 1080p sizes to the Rockstar Social Club where others can take a look at your creation.
Overall it seems like an easy to use but powerful editor, and something that should definitely be pretty nice for players who want to capture those chance moments in the game that seem like they'll never happen again. You'll just have to remember to hit F2.
For multiplayer, the game uses Games for Windows -- Live, the integration of which Nelson was willing to elaborate on. "Achievements for single-player, friends lists, voice communication, multiplayer anti-cheating technology, and distributed worldwide servers for robust online play... you will have the exact same achievements available from the single-player and multiplayer on the consoles.

Create Custom Backgrounds For Folders in Xp & Vista

Haven't you always wondered whether it is possible to change the boring old white background for folders in your system? Well its really possible with a simple tricks, follow these steps:

Navigate to the Folder whose background you want to change. Click Tools>Folder Options>Select View Tab.
Select the option "Show hidden files and folders" (You may need to double-click Hidden files and folders first).
Uncheck the options "Hide Operating System Files and Folders" and "HideExtensions For known File Types".
Click OK. Now check in the folder whose background you want to change.
If there is a file named desktop.ini there, open it with notepad and edit it. Else right click there and choose New>Text Document and double click to open it.
Now type in the Notepad file the following code:
[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}] IconArea_Image=Path to your image file
Change the value "Path to your image file" with the address of the background image.(eg- C:\My Documents\bg.jpg)
If you're editing the folder's existing desktop.ini file, save the edited file and close your text editor. If you created a new text document, Goto File>Save As>Save it in that folder as "desktop.ini" (with the double quotes).
Once you've created your desktop.ini file for folders in Windows Vista or in Windows XP, click Start > Run >type in cmd and type in the command prompt window that opens the following code :
attrib +s "path to the folder"

The 'path to the folder' would be something like C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents , it's the same folder where you created the desktop.ini file

Done! Go to the folder where you created the desktop.ini file and see the magic..

Make a Friendly Virus

To make a friendly virus on any system, Read on. It's not technically a virus, but the scare is all the same! .

To start with open notepad and copy paste the following statement:

Now choose "Save As" from the File dropdown menu and type the following as filename: "Virus.vbs" (inlcuding the quotes).

You may now go to he folder which contains the file and open it to view the result. A window pops up with the above message and you have to click Yes or No. Either way it says your hard disk will be formatted. Actually even when you click any option nothing will happen to the PC, sure.

Put this file in the startup folder of some pc and give the user a real shock. But before he actually formats, tell him the truth. ;)

You can edit the message that pops up to any message you need. You can do so after copying the above text, paste it to a notepad file and change the message within the quotes.
